A Portrait of a DJ- A New York City Experience
A portrait of a DJ.
This is a true #fbf or Flashback Friday. I was shooting with a 35mm back then. This photo is circa 1998. While visiting some friends in New York, we took many great strides in having an impromptu photo session. We arrived at a street party in a park in the Bronx. The young woman who immediately caught my eye was spinning music. I wasn’t accustomed to seeing a female DJ. And seeing one spin out in the open in a park. But we were in the Bronx; the birthplace of hip hop. It was a fun time. Sometimes it pays to just carry your camera around and like a tourist. I like being able to hop out of a car with my camera in hand and capturing one of those fleeting moments in time. I wish i could recall what she was mixing. I just know that I was excited to grab a shot. I’d taken no other like it up to that point in my young exploration of photography up to that point.

Opening Night at the Hippodrome: “The Elephant Man”
It’s always a blast to photograph the VIP opening night of Hippodrome plays.The opening night of The Elephant Man on April 15th was certainly no exception.
The play, based on a true story, was very well done and exceeded my expectations. Despite the heaviness of the situation, it still managed to have good-natured humor in it. It really made me appreciate the work the actors put into the show.
The cast photos, which have a few traditions, are one of my favorite parts of the night. The cast gets silly and we take tons of fun pictures. That helps the event goers have fun with the pictures as well. Everyone loosens up and has a great time.

Opening Night at the Hippodrome
The Hippodrome’s opening night of Women in Jeopardy shoot allowed me to enjoy food, fun and art – all in a day’s work. I’m able to interact with and capture event-goers at the pre- and post-show receptions. Square 1 Burgers catered the food, which included amazing Kobe beef sliders and wings that fell off the bone.
The crowd was electric, as I did get a chance to see the play as well. The post-show is always kicked up a notch, as the actors come out to have great food and mingle with the VIPs. Because I’ve been going on my third season, we’ve developed some fun traditions that center on the cast photos. We like to goof off and really have fun with it. Shooting the Builders Association of North Central Florida Installation Banquet
I was honored to be able to shoot the recent BANCF (Builders Association of North Central Florida) Installation Banquet). During the annual banquet BANCF installs its officers for the coming year.
The event was held Dec. 11 at the UF Hilton. There was a great crowd on hand as the new leadership was sworn in and BANCF’s 60th anniversary was celebrated.
Brandon Tickham, of D.E. Scorpio Corp., was elected 2016 BANCF president. He is pictured here with his two children.
